This week I had the honor of painting a Bible for a young woman dedicating her life to Christ — a gift from her parents to accompany her on the most important journey of all. Every Bible I paint is more than just art. I pray over each one, asking God to bless the hands that hold it, the eyes that read it, and the heart that carries His Word into the world. For this young woman, I prayed for her walk with Him to be steady and full of light. That she would be surrounded by people who will lift her up when she can’t walk alone, be her witnesses, her peace in the storm, and her light in the dark. It is humbling to know my artwork might sit in someone’s hands during their quiet moments with God, through their tears, joys, doubts, and praise. That is a privilege I don’t take lightly. Thank you to her family for trusting me with this part of her story. And thank you, Lord, for letting me use the gifts You gave me to glorify You and serve others in this way. 🐴 The Weekly Buzz with Bee: Comfort Zones & Kitty Litter? This week’s update is all about finding our rhythm—and one surprising barn hack. After months of adjusting Bee’s grazing, feed, hormones, and exercise, her care is finally intuitive. But even when things settle down, barn life still has a few surprises. Bee has a history of using her stall as, let’s say, a bathroom a little too often—especially when she lived on the “Penthouse” side of the barn. Since moving to 24/7 turnout, things improved… until this week. So I tried something different: kitty litter in the corner she favors. Not only did it help with cleanup and odor, but Bee hasn’t used that spot since. Even better? She rolled in her stall for the first time! A happy horse is a rolling horse. In horse lingo, some might call this “easy keeper” energy—but really, it’s not that Bee’s low maintenance. It’s that I’ve learned her rhythms. She’s not easier, I’m just better at caring for her. And speaking of comfort, Maple the barn cat has officially adopted me. Meet our new barn neighbor and cowgirl extraordinaire, Saylor Walters—and trust us, she’s the real deal. Not only is Saylor the proud new owner of geldings Dually and Joker (now living in Bee and Sinjari’s old stalls), but she also earned instant barn cred by doing what few of us would dare: taking down a giant snake near the property. That’s some serious cowgirl courage. Oh, and did we mention? She’s also this year’s Miss North Texas High School Rodeo Association Queen. Grace, grit, and glitter—Saylor brings it all. And she’s not the only rodeo royalty in the barn. Just a few stalls down, Meg—mom to back herd alpha Levi—once held the title of Miss Rodeo Georgia. These women may not wear their crowns in the arena anymore, but they sure still shine. The tradition of rodeo queens goes all the way back to 1910 in Pendleton, Oregon. What started as a local honor has grown into a national symbol of community pride and horsemanship, with the first Miss Rodeo America crowned in 1956. These women aren’t just pretty faces; they’re ambassadors of the sport and powerful role models. June 20, 2025: Bonus Buzz - Bee, the Lesson MVP This week Bee earned herself an A+ in teamwork and training and proved just how far she’s come! With my lesson mate Jennifer in the saddle, Bee showed just how reliable (and versatile!) she can be. She walked, trotted, loped, and cruised through the barrel pattern like a total champ—ears forward, attitude dialed in. She wasn’t just cooperative—she was happy to do the job. The highlight? Bee’s bond with her herd mate Vita and her rider, Finley. Bee made it her mission to stick close to Vita the entire lesson, sometimes to my chagrin. She was calm and content beside her new buddy as we warmed up and didn’t pay any mind to the other horses. No kicking, no pinning ears—just sweet, social Bee being part of a herd and showing off her good manners. And here’s a personal note: There was a time I didn’t think I’d be able to ride Bee—let alone have someone else ride her. Watching her carry someone else safely, confidently, and with kindness was one of those small-but-huge moments that made my heart swell. She’s not just my horse anymore—she’s proving to be a true partner. June 20, 2025: Bee Bonds, Fast Laps & Family Time This week brought some extra love from Ohio—my niece Miranda came to visit, and Bee soaked up every moment. From carrot spoils to long grooming sessions and a relaxing soak, Bee was pampered like the queen she is. Her favorite? The carrots, of course. 🍬🥕 Things feel steady in Bee’s world right now. She’s holding a healthy weight, her meds and supplements are working in sync, and she’s more responsive than ever. I plan to connect with Dr. Roeber soon to see if we can start tapering some things back. That's a milestone we’ve been working toward. 💊📉 In the arena, Bee continues to be my steady but speedy teacher. She LOVES to run barrels, but she’s also learning to slow it down for me when I ask—proof of the growing bond between us even if “SLOW” isn’t her favorite speed. Her willingness to listen is growing right alongside her sass, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s weeks like this—where nothing wild happens—that feel like real milestones in disguise. 🐴 This week’s mystery moment? I found a fishnet at the barn.
